About Sunrise & Sunset
Solar Angles
Sunrise and sunset are calculated from the Sun's apparent position relative to the horizon, depending on your latitude, longitude, and the time of year.
Civil Twilight
Dawn (civil twilight begins) is when the Sun is 6° below the horizon — enough light for outdoor activities. Dusk is the equivalent evening moment.
Seasonal Variation
Day length varies dramatically by season and latitude. Near the poles, summer brings midnight sun (24h daylight) and winter brings polar night (0h daylight).
