About Time Zones
UTC and Offsets
Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) is the global time standard. Time zones are expressed as UTC offsets ranging from UTC-12:00 to UTC+14:00 across the globe.
Daylight Saving Time
Many countries shift clocks forward by one hour in summer (DST), temporarily changing the UTC offset. The same city may show different offsets at different times of year.
IANA Timezone Database
Timezone names like 'America/New_York' come from the IANA Time Zone Database, the authoritative source used by all computers and mobile devices worldwide.
