About Salary Conversion

How Conversion Works

All conversions go through the annual salary. Hourly to annual = hourly rate × hours per week × 52 weeks. Annual to hourly = annual salary ÷ 52 ÷ hours per week. Bi-weekly = annual ÷ 26 pay periods. Monthly = annual ÷ 12. Daily = annual ÷ (weeks per year × days per week).

Gross vs. Net Salary

This calculator shows gross salary (before taxes). Your net take-home pay will be less after federal and state income taxes, Social Security (6.2%), Medicare (1.45%), and any benefit deductions. A $60,000 gross salary typically results in $45,000–$50,000 net depending on your tax situation.

Bi-Weekly vs. Semi-Monthly

Bi-weekly means paid every two weeks (26 paychecks/year). Semi-monthly means paid twice a month (24 paychecks/year). They're often confused. With bi-weekly pay, two months per year have 3 paychecks. Semi-monthly pay is exactly half the monthly salary each time.

Overtime Calculation

Under US federal law, non-exempt employees earn 1.5× their hourly rate for hours over 40 per week. If your hourly rate is $20, overtime is $30/hour. Some states have additional rules. Converting salary to hourly helps evaluate whether overtime opportunities increase effective compensation.
