About Meta Tags
The title Tag
The <title> tag defines the title displayed in browser tabs and search engine results. It is one of the most important on-page SEO elements. Best practice: keep it between 50-60 characters, include your primary keyword near the beginning, and make it unique and descriptive for each page. Titles that are too long get truncated in search results.
Meta Description
The meta description provides a brief summary of the page content and appears below the title in search results (SERP snippets). While not a direct ranking factor, a compelling description improves click-through rates. Aim for 150-160 characters. Include your primary keyword naturally and end with a call to action when appropriate.
Open Graph Tags
Open Graph meta tags (og:title, og:description, og:image, og:url) control how your page is displayed when shared on social media platforms like Facebook, LinkedIn, and Slack. Without these tags, social platforms use arbitrary content from the page. The og:image should be at least 1200×630 pixels for best results across all platforms.
Twitter Card Tags
Twitter Card meta tags (twitter:card, twitter:title, twitter:description, twitter:image) control tweet previews when your URL is shared on Twitter. The 'summary_large_image' card type provides a large image preview that attracts more engagement. Without Twitter Card tags, Twitter falls back to Open Graph tags, but dedicated Twitter tags give you more control.
