About HEIC Format
What is HEIC/HEIF?
HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is Apple's implementation of the HEIF (High Efficiency Image File Format) standard. It uses advanced compression to store photos at roughly half the file size of JPEG while maintaining equivalent quality. iPhones and iPads use HEIC as the default photo format.
Why Convert HEIC?
While HEIC offers superior compression, it's not universally supported outside Apple's ecosystem. Windows, Android, and many web applications may not display HEIC files natively. Converting to JPG or PNG ensures your photos can be viewed and shared on any platform.
Conversion Quality
When converting HEIC to JPG, you can adjust the quality setting to balance file size and visual quality. For sharing, 80-90% quality typically provides excellent results. Converting to PNG preserves maximum quality but with larger file sizes.
Browser Support Note
HEIC conversion in the browser depends on your browser's native HEIC support. Safari on macOS typically supports HEIC natively. For browsers without native support, consider using a desktop application for conversion.
